Dyson Racing has announced that it is joining forces with Dunlop Motorsports to supply its Lola-Mazda with tyres for the 2010 season of the American Le Mans Series.
“Dunlop shares the same commitment and passion for winning that we do,” said Chris Dyson, Vice-President and Sporting Director. “They have shown tremendous strides in tyre development the past two years and their tires will be a key part of our championship effort in 2010. We look forward to having Dunlop involved with our team as a technical partner.”
Dyson Racing finished second in the 2009 ALMS P2 class with their Lola-Mazda LMP2 coupes. The team captured two wins last season, including the Petit La Mans in October. The team never finished off the podium for the year and claimed three poles and three fast laps. Butch Leitzinger and Marino Franchitti were second in the P2 Drivers Championship and Chris Dyson and Guy Smith were fourth in the standings after not running for points in the last two races of the year when the #16 Dyson car ran BP’s new biobutanol fuel blend.
Gary Wassell, Manager, Car Motorsport at Dunlop’s Birmingham UK base added, “We look forward to our increasing involvement in North America racing and to assisting one of the leading sportscar racing teams in the world.”
“Dyson Racing is North America’s premier sportscar racing team and we are delighted with the opportunity, not only to supply our tyres, but to work with a team with such an impressive record,” commented Phil Lamont, President, Vintage Tyres Limited, the distributor of Dunlop racing tires in North America. Dunlop racing tires are manufactured at their Motorsport Division factory based in Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, England.
Dyson Racing will be announcing the details of their 2010 racing plans in the coming weeks. The team will be at the ALMS Winter Test in Sebring FL on February 22nd and 23rd. The 2010 American Le Mans Series will open its 12th season with America’s greatest sportscar race, the 58th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida from March 17 - 20.
