Podium for Intersport at Mosport Park

Intersport Racing took another podium position in the latest round of the American Le Mans Series at Mosport Park in Canada on Sunday with their Lola-AER LMP1.

In a typically aggressive start to the race, Field got as high as second position, hounding the race leading Acura driven by Gil De Ferran. Sadly however an early pit stop on lap 9 lost the team significant time to the front-runners. After Clint Field took over from his father, the turbo powered Lola B06/10 climbed back up the order and finished a creditable 4th overall.

Dyson Racing was in line for another LMP2 win with Marino Franchitti and Butch Leitzinger leading the class for much of the race. The Scotsman in particular showing that he has become the driving benchmark in the LMP2 class this season with some stunning lap times, even leading overall in the early part of the race. But an engine problem near the end of the race was a frustrating way to end such a positive weekend for the #16 Lola-Mazda.

The sister Dyson Lola-Mazda of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith was also running strongly until a sizeable accident at Turn 1 curtailed its race, Chris Dyson walked away from the accident uninjured.

Autocon Motorsports continued their good form on from the last race at Elkhart Lake. Chris McMurry and Tony Burgess raced well in the early part of the race but the ultimately failed to finish the 2nr 45mins event with their Lola B06/10 LMP1 car.

The next round on the American Le Mans schedule is the 12th Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta. The 10-hour race takes place on September 26.
